History of AHIA

History

AHIA was launched in 2014 by Dr. Dennis Liotta, Steve Sencer, and Charlie Goetz with the intent to support the growth of healthcare innovation in Africa. Inspired by Dr. Liotta’s own successful lab-to-market journey which included the invention of Emtricitabine, a breakthrough HIV medication, Dr. Liotta wanted to clear a path for African innovators to successfully launch life-saving innovation in their home countries.

Since its inception, AHIA has supported & mentored over 35 innovators on their entrepreneurial journey and provided training for 200+ life sciences innovators across the African continent. Given its unique focus on innovator and student learning, AHIA has also trained over 40 Emory students in lab-to-market pathways.

Today, AHIA continues the original vision as a training and accelerator program for the advancement of healthcare innovation in Africa and as an experiential learning opportunity for Emory science and business students.
